Community Journalism

Community journalism - the kind that tells people what their city councils and state governments are doing, the kind that affects change at the local, dare I say grassroots, level - seems the most overlooked part of the media in the U.S. But what would happen if newspapers stopped writing about local political races, land use policies, development projects, etc? Here's what: communities would lose control of their governments and hence their choices about quality of life, education, public services.... Why, then, in the vilification of the Media that takes place in this country do poeple not defend community journalism?
